Will Harnett
(Native place:New York)
Will Harnett first came to Japan through an exchange program, AFS, in 2006 during his Junior year of highschool. With a technologically advanced Tokyo style image you can imagine he was a little more than culture shocked when he wound up living in a host family in a small farming community outside of Kyoto, a city known for it's numerous cultural heritage sites and traditonal Japanese arts.
After his exchange and graduation of highschool he spent two months backpacking around Europe, with a budget of only 2000$ which included an 841$ open ended plane ticket, Will joined a program called WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) which allowed him, in exchanage for a few hours of labor, to stay on Organic farms in foreign countries. Exploring his own economic limits and many different cultures throughout Europe after a few months he went back to America.
With an interest in foreign languages and cultures plus new found interest in Economics, especially the economic development of the countries of BRIC's (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and language skills in Japanese, he decided to apply to a Japanese for economics. He narrowed his choices down to schools that offered Korean, economics and management and had a large body asian exchange students.
He applied to and entered Kyushu International University's economics faculty in April of this year. He is currently, while attending class, participating in several clubs and student support groups.
After graduation he hopes to find employment in an international buisness with his abilities in language, mainly Japanese, Korean and English and his degree in Economics.
